Teeth in 1 Day

Teeth in 1 Day

What is the “Teeth in 1 day” protocol?

With the “teeth in 1 day” or immediate loading or All-on-4 ® treatment concept, it becomes possible to place dental implants and a fixed total prosthesis screwed to the implants on the same day, without compromising the long-term result.

This treatment concept is the ideal solution for the rehabilitation of a completely edentulous jawbone or one in which the remaining dental parts are irreparably compromised.

It involves placing just 4 or 6 titanium implants in each jaw, through a quick and minimally invasive procedure, which will support a fixed prosthesis capable of replicating the aesthetics and function of the natural dentition.

On the same day, the patient will be able to eat, speak and smile with confidence again. Through the use of advanced surgical techniques, even in patients with very little available bone mass, who are often discouraged from having implants fitted, it is possible to have a fixed prosthesis.

Benefits of the “Teeth in 1 day” protocol

  • Reduced treatment time: The entire dentition can be replaced and dental implants placed in the same operation, without having to wait for the bone to heal. The fixed prosthesis is also placed on the same day and within a few hours of the surgery;
  • Simpler surgical technique: Eliminates the need for bone transplantation and is therefore a less invasive operation;
  • Immediate results: The patient’s masticatory function, phonetics and aesthetics can be restored on the same day, in the most natural and harmonious way possible;
  • Maintenance of bone structure and facial aesthetics: There is a reduction in the resorption of bone structure after tooth extractions, resulting from the immediate placement of implants;
  • Ease of hygiene: Easy to handle and clean, which allows for effective oral hygiene;
  • Economically favourable: Avoids bone transplantation, reduces the number of implants and reduces surgery time, making it a less expensive procedure;
  • High success rate.

Indications for placing “Teeth in 1 day”

The total or partial absence of teeth has a huge impact on our quality of life, compromising function and aesthetics, with serious consequences for physical and mental health.

Nowadays, removable prostheses are no longer an acceptable long-term treatment for replacing missing teeth.

Especially totally edentulous patients who wear traditional dentures know that over time they become loose, causing pain, difficulty chewing and speaking, which can lead to serious health problems as well as discomfort and reduced self-confidence.

Step by step: “Teeth in 1 day”

   1. Pre-Surgical Assessment and Planning Consultation

At Instituto Dentário Alto dos Moinhos we start with a clinical and radiographic assessment, where the patient’s oral health is determined and an orthopantomography is carried out, followed by a CBCT (Computerised Tomography) to assess the structure and density of the jawbone.

Other complementary diagnostic tests may also be requested. The treatment plan that best suits the patient’s case is then presented, followed by a photographic record and aesthetic assessment for better planning.

The 3D image study through digital planning allows the patient and medical team to foresee an approximate final result, in order to meet the needs, expectations and characteristics of each patient.

  2. Smile Creation

At the Instituto Dentário Alto dos Moinhos we work closely with the IDLAB laboratory, with high standards of rigour and quality, so that a fixed prosthesis on implants is produced that meets the specific functional and aesthetic needs of each patient.

  3. Surgical Intervention

The surgery to place dental implants is carried out in a controlled environment and in the greatest possible comfort, using local anaesthesia. It is a simplified, minimally invasive and short surgical procedure. Temporary prostheses are placed on the same day, during the healing period, which is usually 6 months.

For more anxious patients, we also use conscious sedation, a non-invasive technique that helps reduce the patient’s fear and anxiety symptoms.

4. Recovery and Post-Operation

At Instituto Dentário Alto dos Moinhos we have an individual waiting room where the patient can rest in privacy and comfort immediately after the surgical procedure, benefiting from the support and monitoring of our team. After the surgery, you will be given instructions on post-operative care and prescribed all the medication you need to avoid any discomfort.

The patient will also be given instructions on how to maintain excellent oral hygiene during the post-operative phase. The patient will return home the same day with information about the schedule of subsequent check-ups.

  5. Placement of the Definitive Fixed Prosthesis

After healing, which usually takes between 4 and 6 months, the temporary prostheses will be replaced by permanent prostheses. The material used in permanent prostheses is even more resistant, durable and guarantees greater adaptation to the tissues.

In order to achieve an extremely aesthetic final smile that recreates the unique and detailed characteristics of each patient, we usually use ceramic, as it is a more noble material with greater biocompatibility and high durability.
